OSHA to scrutinize safety for health care workers

Pennsylvania health care workers may soon benefit from efforts by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to investigate safe working conditions for nurses at residential care facilities and hospitals. For years, health care workers have suffered unusually high injury rates due to the challenges involved in lifting patients and the reluctance of health care facilities to invest in lifts and other equipment. The probe will focus on the musculoskeletal injuries that are common as well as falls and exposure to pathogens and other hazards.

Judge allows case to be heard in Pennsylvania federal court

On May 18, a federal judge ruled that a slip-and-fall case involving a Pennsylvania man would be heard in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The plaintiff, a resident of Philadelphia, had wanted the case to be heard ni the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas. However, the judge held that the case would be heard in federal court due to diversity of citizenship, as the defendant, Interval Leisure Group, Inc., is based in Miami, Florida.
