Martin's grocery store sued for slip-and-fall accident

On June 11, an arbitrator in Pennsylvania will hear the case of a woman who was injured after falling at a Martin's Food Markets store in Royersford. The woman filed a lawsuit in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas in September after she claims she suffered from serious injuries during a slip-and-fall accident that occurred on July 7, 2013.

According to the plaintiff, she slipped and fell after walking onto a puddle of water that had collected next to an ice-making machine in the supermarket where she was shopping. She claims that no non-slip mat had been placed near the ice-making machine, and no sign had been posted to warn customers about the puddle. The woman sustained a left knee contusion and lumbar strain during her fall. She claims that pain from the injury is permanent.

The plaintiff is seeking more than $50,000 in damages in addition to reimbursement for her past and future medical costs. She has named Giant Food Stores, Inc., which operates as Martin's Food Markets, as the defendant. The woman claims that the grocery store chain is liable for her injuries due to its negligence in failing to identify the potential for injuries near the ice-making machine.

Slip-and-fall accidents can result in devastating injuries, especially when they occur on hard flooring or cement. A person who has been injured in one of these types of accidents may want to contact an attorney to discuss the possibility of filing a premises liability lawsuit. Many injured victims seek reimbursement for medical expenses as well as compensation for pain and suffering.
